14 Ways to Make Your Sales Brochures Effective

1. Understand your customer. Before you spend any time planning or writing brochures, make sure you understand your customer. Why would they want to buy your product?
2. Plan your brochure for AIDA. No, that’s not your favorite aunt. AIDA is an acronym for Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. To be effective, your sales brochure needs to get attention, get the prospect interested enough to read further, raise their desire for the product or service, and get them to take a specific action such as buy now, call and make an appointment, visit your website, or return a post card.
3. Don’t put a picture of your building on the cover of the sales brochure. Sure, you’re proud of the building and the way the company has grown. But your customers really don’t care how proud you are of your company, or how big your building is.
4. Do use images that are important to your customer. Your customer will want to see the product your selling or images of the results they’ll get or emotions they’ll feel if they use your product or service.
5. Sell, don’t tell. Your customers and prospects aren’t really interested in your company or products. They are interested in themselves and/or their own businesses.
6. Use headlines and graphics your audience cares about. The average reader takes less than 5 seconds to glance at the cover of a sales brochure and decide whether or not to read it.
7. Make your brochure look professional. Even if your brochure is well-written, it won’t get much response if it’s poorly designed. Confusing page layouts, type that’s too big or too small, too many different fonts or too many different colors of type on a page can all make a brochure – and your business – look unprofessional.
8. Use benefits-oriented headlines inside your brochure. Once you’ve gotten the recipient to open the sales brochure, the next thing they’ll do is skim the headlines inside it.
9. Use bullet points to focus on the key features of your product or service. Consumers and business people alike are pressed for time and have many ads vying for their attention.
10. Focus on readability. Don’t make it difficult for people to read your brochure. Gray type on a white background and dark type on a dark background are difficult to read.

35+ Marketing Brochure Examples, Tips and Templates

Estimated Reading Time: 8 mins
1. Use a color gradient in your marketing brochure design. Gradients are back in a big way this year. If I remember correctly, the last time gradients were this popular, we were still using AOL.
2. Make data easy to comprehend with a compelling data viz. There isn’t a ton of space for content on a typical brochure, so you need to make it count. Instead of turning your brochure into the next great novel, show information in a concise and engaging way by using data visualizations.
3. Instantly upgrade your marketing brochure with a color filter. I’m a big fan of color filters because almost anyone can master them in a matter of seconds.
4. Use image frames to integrate your images into your page design. A problem that every designer runs into is that the photos they want to use are all different shapes and sizes.
5. Use bright colors and icons to highlight calls to action. If you’re a marketer you probably know how useful a strong call to action can be. Without it, readers or followers would have no idea what action you want them to take.
6. Add a useful map for your event or business. The example from the previous tip was so well designed that I had to use it again! But instead of applauding their call to actions, I would like to bring attention to the map they created.
7. Include photos with a cohesive style. It’s important to think about how a visual or graphic will fit your brochure theme or message before adding it. Will that photo clash with your message?
8. Insert a timeline to show the history of your product. Source. Like I already mentioned, you don’t have a ton of space to work with on your brochure template.
9. Use visuals consistently throughout your brochure design. One of the easiest ways to mess up your marketing brochure is to use inconsistent visual themes throughout your design.
10. Use a contrasting color to highlight important info. If you want something to stand out from the text around it, use a contrasting color to make it pop.
